Welcome to the new Big Ben Products site. Thank you for taking a look and taking the time to read this. To start with, I'd like to take you back to 2014 to how Big Ben Products came about. The beginning of 2013 was when I first got into lifting properly and Strongman when I moved to a nearby Strongman gym. Like every new to the scene strongman competitor, I loaded up on all the lifting accessories known to man - all the gear no idea! At the end of 2013 I did my first strongman competition - Yorkshire's Strongest Novice. During 2014 I did some more competing in the novice category, the last competition of the year was Burnley & Pendel Push Pull Competition, where the chalk was first unveiled. A few months prior to this I had bought some liquid chalk from a company I'd used before with no issues. This time however a few weeks had passed and no chalk had turned up. For 6 weeks I chased and chased then called it quits and got a refund. (It seems there is still competition about that can't deliver within a reasonable time frame, unlike ourselves who usually post same day ). By this point I had run out of the current bottle of liquid chalk I was using and for some reason I decided to see if I could make it all, see if I could save myself some money (I'm a tight Yorkshire-man). I did some research, bought some ingredients and after some trial and error I had made my first ever bottle! However, I wasn't happy with it. I wanted to improve it. I did some testing, some change in formulation and voila I had made it to something more respectable. I can't recall how it came about but I decided it would put a fun twist on chalk if I could make it coloured and so set about to do this, a few days later with different methods of colouring and that was that! The first ever Big Ben chalk was born. As I said above, the push pull competition was were I unveiled it to mates and used it while competing winning the overall competition, just! Since then it has had many tweaks, step backs, revisions and so on until it is what it is today! After 4 years, I am happy to say that the current formulation doesn't need any tweaking and is the best it can be. I have always striven to make the best possible product and am confident in the current formulation to provide excellent results in grip based events. So where did the name Big Ben come from? This is not something I've ever called myself; in fact, I was always self conscious at school for being overweight but strongman helped get me over this and now enjoy getting big, even if I can't fit in cars... This is the name I was given by friends and it stuck. I felt it was the most appropriate name since everyone knew me by that and would be easy to identify who Big Ben Products was because of this. So there you have it, where it all first started and how Big Ben came about. Now thanks to the support of yourselves I have been able to bring out more products to help other athletes start or continue their journey knowing they're using the best quality products at reasonable prices.
